Situation
Saab Kockums, a Business Area within Saab, is contracted by the Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV) to deliver surface ships and submarines. ILS (Integrated Logistics Support) documentation and technical manuals are vital and integrated parts of these deliverables. Deliveries of documentation have been a manual process, including the review process. Both parties now want to use PLCS and a common digital process to upgrade and improve the information handover process.
Problem
Even though all internal information is being synchronized and integrated through the internal PLCS-based backbone, information has until now been delivered in different formats. There has been no common process to manage the delivery and review process. This results in unnecessary work with costly manual checks on both sides to ensure quality.
Solution
Using PLCS and the Data Exchange Specifications (DEXs) that FMV has developed, Saab Kockums and FMV want to set up a common portal for sharing information and providing digital deliveries and review comments. A common project process for the delivery and review has been defined, and ShareAspace is used as the software to realize the pilot project. The portal, or collaboration hub, will support workflow corresponding to the process defined. It will serve as a staging area for the acceptance and comment connected to the deliverables and the product structure.
Benefits
- Controlled delivery mechanism – Common delivery and sharing platform for ILS information and technical publications, functioning as a staging area and avoiding direct integration between business systems of different organizations.
- Reduced lead times – With a collaboration hub for deliveries, comments and acceptance can be swifter and more accurate. The hub keeps the collaboration history reducing time spent on searching for information.
- Generic solution – The information delivery process is generic and can be used for other suppliers to FMV. SAAB Kockums can reuse the same technical solution.
