Situation
As the market demand changed and with a reduction in sales BAE Systems GCS Vehicles needed to transform their business model to include the aftermarket business. They aimed to offer complete fleet management contracts by servicing the vehicles sold throughout their entire lifecycle. This can be up to 30 years.
Problem
To provide this capability they needed a structured process and tools to collect and share detailed information about each vehicle purchased and operated by each customer, including the design and operational information.
Solution
The Through-Life Capability (TLC) portal is a solution based on Eurostep’s ShareAspace PLM Collaboration platform. With a web-enabled user interface and central repository, it holds information on each individual vehicle manufactured and sold. Customers and partners have restricted access to detailed design and manufacturing information of each vehicle. Service engineers update information about vehicle mileage, repair history, software upgrades, etc. Configuration changes are automatically updated, including all relevant subsystems. “Our aftermarket business is making a significant contribution to our bottom line,” says Håkan Sundell, Head of IM&T, BAE Systems Hägglunds.
Benefits
- Revenue – The new fleet management aftermarket offering has enabled new revenue streams for BAE Systems Hägglunds.
- Agility and efficiency – Up-to-date vehicle information has improved the service and design of vehicles. Improved workflows have reduced response time to customers.
- Security-enhanced collaboration – With the built-in security features in ShareAspace and the role-based user interface of Microsoft® Sharepoint®, collaboration takes place in a highly secure environment, protecting internal IPR assets.
