Situation
SAAB Support and Service, a Business Area within SAAB, is appointed by the Swedish Defence Material Administration to administer the maintenance plans for the new NH90 helicopter and monitor changes in the maintenance plans from supplier NHIndustries. The maintenance plans are documented in the S1000D format and compared manually with the previous plan.
Problem
To manually process the two specifications could take up to eight weeks and SAAB identified the potential to reduce the time to identify changes and improve quality control of new deliveries of technical documentation. Much time was spent manually identifying which parts of the data modules or maintenance tasks have been changed and from what.
Solution
The solution for SAAB enables a consecutive delivery of maintenance plans and automatic comparison. The received maintenance plans in S1000D format are mapped through established processes at SAAB and imported into Eurostep ShareAspace PLM Collaboration platform. With the native support of PLCS, ShareAspace is the ideal platform to consolidate new and old maintenance plans and store their updated history. From the consolidated data, reports can be generated at any time to show the difference between two deliveries, including which data modules and tasks have been changed and how they were changed.
Benefits
- Improved productivity – Dramatically reduce time-to-report with an automated process providing reporting of changes in more detail while reducing human errors at the same time.
- More agile – Possibility to expand and scale the process to include maintenance plan changes from other suppliers.
- More scalable – With support of the PLCS format in ShareAspace enabling SAAB’s clients to fully automate the process as a next step.
